Living in Place Rentals
A retired couple needed to move out of their long-term home due to the husband’s return from hospitalization. Their home was full of steps especially on the first floor and instead of renovating they decided to move. Their new senior independent living apartment was under construction, so the couple hired ADL to do a health and safety assessment and outfit the apartment with accessible features.
Accessible features were needed for mild dementia, a walker, cane, and oxygen as well as standard living in place. Working with the apartment management, ADL was able to include the following features:
For Dementia:
- Decoration to differentiate the door from the rest of the apartments in the internal hallway.
- Labels on all light switches and kitchen cabinets.
- Nightlights at all outlets and under bath vanity
- Color coded clothes closet
For Medical Equipment:
- Place to charge and hang travel oxygen machine and cane at entryway
- Oxygenator space in closet to reduce noise
- Ramp out on to the patio
- Grab Bars, magnetic hand shower, and shower bench in bathroom.
